I International / European Projects:

2015 – 2018: Coordinator of the European Erasmus+-Project: “BleTeach – Blended Learning in Teachers´ Professional Development – Developing a Blended Learning Course in Content Area Literacy for Secondary Teachers” together with partners from 5 European countries and guest participants from the Russian Federation (project budget: 260.000 Euro) (cf. information at www.blend-ed.eu)

2014 – 2016: Coordinator of the “European Literacy Policy Network  – ELINET”, funded by the European Commission and comprising 80 partner organizations from 28 European countries (project budget: 4 Mio Euro) (www.eli-net.eu)

2013 – 2014: Coordinator of an EU-project within the Comenius-programme (Accompanying Measures): “ISIT – Implementation Strategies for Innovations in Teachers´ Professional Development” together with partners from 8 European countries and guest participants from the Russian Federation (project budget: 200.000 Euro) (cf. information at www.blend-ed.eu)

2013 – 2017: International Expert and Consultant in a Romanian Project on Literacy: “Reading to Learn – a literacy project”, funded by the Romanian-American Foundation and coordinated by Prof. Liliana Romaniuc, Filocalia Foundation Iasi

2011-2012: Coordinator of an EU-project within the Comenius-programme (Multilateral Projects): “BaCuLit – Basic Curriculum for Teachers´ In-Service Training in Content Area Literacy in Secondary Schools” together with 7 European countries and 2 US experts [Carol Santa, PhD; Prof. William G. 2006-2009: Coordinator of a European project within the SOCRATES-programme of the European Commission: “ADORE. Teaching Struggling Adolescent Readers. A Comparative Study of Good Practice in European Countries”, with 11 European countries and American experts [Reading Apprenticeship at WestEd California] and one American external advisor [Prof. Donna Alvermann] (project budget 630.000 Euro); cf. II German Projects:

2012 – 2018: Co-initiator and scientific leader of an internet platform “Boys & Books. Empfehlungen zur Leseförderung von Jungen” aiming at fostering book reading of boys (www.boysandbooks.de), funded 2013 – 2015 as „Innovative Study Project“ from University of Cologne with 58.000 Euro; since 2018 senior advisor and member of one jury team for boys’ books (age group 8+)

2013 – 2015: Scientific advisor and evaluator of the project „Kicken & Lesen Köln – Leseförderung für Kölner Jungen“ funded by SK Stiftung Kultur der Sparkasse Köln-Bonn,  (http://www.kickenundlesenkoeln.de/index.php/home.html)

2011 – 2017: Scientific advisor and reading expert in the evaluation of the reading promotion project in Germany:  „Lesestart – Drei Meilensteine für das Lesen“ (Getting started with reading – three milestones for reading), organized by the German Reading Foundation (Stiftung Lesen; www.lesestart.de), funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF Berlin, budget: 26 million euro), together with  INTERVAL GmBH Berlin and Prof. Claus Barkmann, UKE Hamburg

2009-2010: Principal scientific advisor and evaluator of the first German nation-wide initiative aimed at fostering reading competences in all content areas from grades 1 to 13: “Pro Lesen. Auf dem Weg zur Leseschule. Entwicklung von Materialien und Konzepten zur Leseförderung in allen Unterrichtsfächern” (Pro Reading – on the way to comprehensive school programmes in reading literacy); a project of the Deutsche Kultusministerkonferenz (Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs in the Federal Republic of Germany) (http://www.leseforum.bayern.de/index.asp?MNav=6 )

1997- 2004: Co-initiator of a research programme at the German Research Association (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) focussing on „Reading Socialisation in a Media­ Society“ (Lesesozialisation in der Mediengesellschaft), which funded around 30 research projects on reading research between 1998 and 2004

1998 – 2001: Principal investigator in the DFG research project „Gender difference and reading habits in adolescence. How reading matters in me­dia use of contemporary adolescents “ as part of the research programme on „Reading Socialisation in a Media Society“ (project budget: 115.000 Euro)

1996 – 1998: Co-Investigator (together with Hartmut Eggert) in the research project „Literary intellectualism in a media society. Media-biographical case-studies regarding intellectual socialisation of  young adults“ at the FU Berlin (project budget, funded by the German Research Association DFG: ca. 100.000 Euro).
