Aoife Ahern has been a professor of language education at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid since 2005, where she is the coordinator of foreign language studies.
Her work on literacy is focussed on second language specialist preparation for teaching at primary schools, especially in Content and Language Integrated Learning programmes. She teaches courses on literacy in English as an additional language with undergraduate students of education, supervises undergraduate, master’s and doctoral dissertations.
Aoife is interested in effective literacy teaching practices, democratizing literacy education, the Reading to Learn approach, and pluriliteracies in the context of bilingual and multilingual schooling. She is co-chair of the Research Group on Multilingualism, Multiliteracies and Language Education.
